ST Augustine's Primary have become the latest school to take advantage of Weymouth Football Club's free ticket offer.

Pupils from the school, along with their parents, were at the Wessex Stadium to witness the Terras claim an impressive 1-0 success over Stevenage Borough.

Football in the community officer Tim Davis, who arranged the visit, said: "It was great to see so many pupils from St Augustine's take advantage of our ticket offer.

"Many of the children had never been to the Wessex Stadium before to see a game and it is a great way of raising awareness about the club and what we can offer."

The ticketing initiative, which sees all pupils from a chosen school come in for free and their parents receive admission at half-price, has proved immensely popular.

In addition, Weymouth FC also donate a further £1.50 per adult who attends the match back to the school.

ST GEORGE'S SCHOOL YEAR Three girls at St George's School on Portland had a great time recently when the football in the community team organised an afternoon's training with them.

Teacher Becky Radford arranged the visit and around 30 girls participated. Many of those who took part had never kicked a ball before but they certainly enjoyed having a go at the skills' tests and playing in the small-sided games.

Leaflets were also distributed to the girls informing them about the new Weymouth FC Football in the Community Girls' League, which is due to start soon.

Radford said: "I would like to say a big thank you to Weymouth FC for a great afternoon's coaching at St George's. The girls loved it and have shown quite a bit of interest in the game since."

Davis added: "The attitude of the girls was fantastic and they are a credit to themselves, their parents and their school. Hopefully some of them will now take up football more regularly."

PENALTY SHOOT-OUT LAUREN Chatterton was the winner of the Girls' Under-8s penalty shoot-out competition.

The talented youngster received a free trip for four to either Guernsey or Jersey courtesy of sponsor Condor Ferries.

The club holds shoot-outs at half-time of every Blue Square Premier home game.

SOCCER SCHOOLS THE Terras are making final preparations for the upcoming Soccer Schools over the Easter Holidays.

The first one will be staged at Swanage Middle School from March 25-28 and will be for 4-5 year-old Tiny Terras, Girls from 6-16 years and boys from 6-13 years.

The following week, the Marsh will then stage another school from April 1-4 where Tiny Terras, girls and boys will all be catered for.

Recently, 2,000 leaflets were distributed around local schools advertising the event and as with the event at Swanage, former Weymouth skipper Andy Harris will be among the coaching staff.

A third soccer school will also be run at Milborne St Andrew from April 2-4.

Davis said: "Easter is a very busy time for all associated with the scheme and we are looking forward to running the three Soccer Schools.

"It is great to have Andy Harris involved, as he is great with the kids, and as usual the emphasis will be strictly on having fun with a mixture of mini tournaments, penalty shoot-outs and skills' tests.

"It is particularly pleasing to be running sessions at Swanage and with our friends at Milborne St Andrew as it gives the club the opportunity to promote the Terras to a wider audience."
