Four ways to help make a difference

8:47am Thursday 3rd April 2008

JUST HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN

Dr Simon Cripps, chief executive of Dorset Wildlife Trust

THERE are four things, and they concern how I eat, how I travel, what I use and how I work.

Firstly I choose to eat Marine Stewardship Council-accredited fish and dolphin-friendly tuna - I stay away from Mediterranean tuna because they're almost extinct. I also buy Fairtrade products because it gives money back to people to manage their environment.

Before travelling I will consider whether it can be done with a telephone call. In my previous job we did video conferencing which was fabulous. I have started buying carbon credits if I go by plane.

I reduce, reuse and recycle where I can. I've just moved back after living abroad and I was careful not to throw anything out which could have gone to a home elsewhere.

In terms of my work I chose a career in the environment because I believe in it and I want to make a difference.
