OVER 70 villagers gathered recently in Bradford Peverell Village Hall to wish June and Barry Burt well as they retire from their job as Churchwardens at the village church.

June has been a churchwarden for 20 years and Barry for 10 years. Barry also has been the organist for some 23 years.

The Rev Ken Scott thanked June and Barry for all their devoted service and commented that really the church had had a two for the price of one - a bargain!

June was presented with flowers and vegetarian Barry also was presented with a tin of baked beans which is a long-standing joke as he has them every day!

June has also been Parochial Church Council secretary for many years so they leave a large gap to be filled.

When asked about her most memorable moments from her job June said maybe it was when a swarm of bees took over the Chancel and the service had to be held halfway down the aisle!

It was a real village gathering not just of churchgoers but of all their friends in the village. Well done and thank you June and Barry.
