RiskSTOP is given a Euro-accolade

8:25am Friday 25th April 2008

STAFF and directors at RiskSTOP are celebrating after receiving a special Judges' Commendation at a European awards ceremony in Paris.

The company, which is based near Dorchester, was one of a handful to receive the honour at the 2008 European Strategic Risk Management Awards.

Tom Lillington, who is group general manager of RiskSTOP, was presented with the commendation at the Westin Hotel.

RiskSTOP director Trevor Smith said: "We are absolutely delighted.

"We were up against companies several hundred times our size and which have been global operators for decades.

"We are a relatively young company with innovative ideas and practical applications which benefit insurers, brokers, major companies and, as in this case, SMEs.

"It is a real accolade, particularly for our staff, to be recognised by our peers and against such formidable competition."

RiskSTOP provides risk management solutions to the insurance sector.

The commendation was for RiskSTOP's Support service in the Product of the Year category. Support is an innovative programme through which SMEs can improve their risk management efficiently and cost effectively.

The awards dinner included many influential names in the European risk management sphere, as well as some of the world's largest insurers, brokers and companies.

Initially, RiskSTOP chose the agricultural sector to trial Support because farms are recognised by the Health and Safety Executive as a high hazard sector.

Working in partnership with FarmWeb, the network of agricultural insurance brokers, the trials resulted in a reduction by 22 per cent in the volume of claims and incidents, and a reduction in the claims ratio from 57.4 per cent to 52.1 per cent.

Now RiskSTOP has successfully introduced Support across a wide range of business sectors such as hotels, printing companies, plumbing, heating contractors and security companies. RiskSTOP already holds a number of other industry awards including The Queen's Award for Enterprise (Innovation).

It was formed in 2000, and has grown from a staff of six to a 120-strong team.

Its services include the award-winning Support and Assist, HomeSafe and Prism.

Most recently it launched RiskSTOP Surveys Ltd to complement its portfolio of services to the insurance industry.
