  • PUDDLETOWN First School has got a magnificent new scooter and bicycle rack to encourage its pupils to travel to school in a healthier way than simply jumping into the car.

A school travel grant aimed at encouraging children to do just this enabled the school staff to ask Bob Lovett of Spring Grove Forge if he could make a rack for them.

They simply showed Bob a picture in a catalogue, and from this he designed and constructed the sturdy frame to neatly accommodate numerous scooters and bicycles ridden to school by pupils and staff. The whole thing fits into an incredibly small space at the side of the school building.

Bob thought the rack was a really excellent idea, and was very glad to be asked to make it. It took two or three days to construct.

Community Beat Officer PCSO Vickie Hedges has been teaching the children about road safety with their scooters. They have been learning how important it is to stop, look, listen and think, always to wear their helmets, and to slow down and watch out for pedestrians.
