Abbotsbury
WELCOME news reached the villages on July 15th. The post offices of Abbotsbury and Portesham will remain open.
An email received from leader of the Chesil Bank Parish Council task force Councillor, Nigel Melville, conveyed thanks to everyone who sent in one of the postcards distributed last month by the task force.
However, this is not the end of the story. What was published was a set of proposals, the final statement comes out in mid September and hopefully should confirm the good news for the two villages.
Nigel recommends that we stay alert for some time yet, as should one of the post offices marked for closure put up a fight for their branch to remain open, Abbotsbury and Portesham could come back into contention.
TRAVELLING through the village recently you may have noticed elegant tubs of topiary in West Street.
They mark the new Artemesia Gallery at Abbotsbury Pictures that is owned by Helen and Rob Walpole.
Artemesia was launched on Saturday, 28th June where the whole family Helen, Emily, Rob, Richard, Rob's mother Maria and Holly Miller welcomed their guests.
The gallery has been refurbished into a large open viewing space.
Artemesia is holding an exhibition during July and August entitled Images of Venice, a collection of work by Bob Freame and Sue Peake. Bobs works are executed in oils and Sue's in watercolours.
There is also a stunning display of Murano Glass and exquisite Murano glass jewellery mounted in silver and gold.
The gallery is well worth a visit. More information can be found on www.abbotsbury-pictures.co.uk or telephone 01305 871272.
THE ABBOTSBURY and Portesham Diamond Club is holding a coffee morning on Thursday, July 24, in Strangways Hall, Abbotsbury from 10am - noon.
