IT was reported at the last parish council meeting that the seat in Knighton Lane has now been installed and given a coat of varnish.

The council has been notified that Persimmon has given instructions for the Old Brickworks Nature Reserve to be cleared and for further clearance work to be undertaken in late September.

A knowledgeable parishioner who lives close to the area has told the council that the pond area has been invaded by the unfriendly New Zealand pygmy weed.

Another parishioner was concerned about the drainage reservoir.

In the autumn when this work has been satisfactorily carried out, the way is open to ask those living nearby whether they might consider taking over and managing the area, as Persimmon is eager to dispose of the land.

Dr Davis and the clerk met in early August with Sarah Harbige from the Dorset Area of Natural Beauty team to explore whether there could be joint working on a village walks leaflet and parish map.

The parish council gave its support to the provision of a Parish Map.

The county council has now issued to Portland Gas the decision notice granting planning permission for the temporary storage unit on land at Chalky Road.

One of the conditions contained in the six page document reads "Traffic Management.

No development shall be commenced until a traffic management scheme for both site construction and the delivery of pipes has been submitted to and approved by the Mineral Planning Authority.

The scheme shall include for the timing and routing of deliveries and the convoying' of loads where necessary.

Reason "In the interests of highway safety and the amenities of the area and in accordance with Policy AH14 of the West Dorset District Local Plan Adopted Plan 2006."

West Dorset District Council has notified the approval of permission at 16 Baker Paddock to demolish a single storey garage and erect a two storey extension to dwelling house.

It has also notified of the appeal to the refusal to the variation of conditions relating to the games room and garage at Cowley House which will be heard by the Planning Inspectorate.

The council will be objecting on the principle of wholly inappropriate and overdevelopment relating to the erection of a detached dwelling and external landscaping at 22 Chalky Road.

It will also be objecting to the development of land by the erection of a detached dwelling and external landscaping at 1 Martel Close.

Mr Russell from Woodacre kindly attended a Flood Day on behalf of the parish council and a copy of his report can be obtained from the parish clerk.

It is the aim of the county and district council to set up a flood warning scheme and for a flood warden to be appointed for each parish.

The chairman indicated that there was already an emergency scheme in existence but it now needed to be updated.

After being cut back, the brambles along the wall in Knighton Lane are growing again and the clerk is in touch with area highways about them.

It was standing room only for a time at the meeting, with 10 members of the public attending, but many leaving after they had listened and/or spoken with the council.

Members of the parish are always welcome to attend and speak by arrangement with the chairman.

The next meeting of the council is on Monday, September 1 at 7.30 pm in the Hall at the back of the Methodist Church.
