THE new bus shelter at Charlmont Cross, Knighton Lane has been installed and arrangements are being made for it to be cleaned, on a regular basis, by the same contractors who already clean the shelter outside the school.

West Dorset District Council has notified the parish council of the decision to refuse the application to develop land by the erection of a detached dwelling with ancillary works at 22 Chalky Road.

The parish council had no objections to the following applications for consultation, namely the erection of a garage at 14 Chalky Road and the replacement of a wooden fence at 8 Knighton Lane as it was felt that the fence was too high and out of character with the surrounding properties.

The council was disappointed that despite the letter from Persimmon at the end of July indicating that work on the Old Brickworks Nature Reserve would be undertaken in August, at the time of the meeting nothing had happened and the clerk was asked to follow this up.

This is very disappointing as many of the residents nearby are interested in getting together to manage this amenity.

Dr Davis, Parish Footpath Officer and the clerk are continuing to work with the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team on Village Walks Leaflets and Parish Map. The next meeting is on September 4.

The chairman has been in touch with the County Emergency Planning Office regarding the village emergency plan.

The template for emergency arrangements issued several years ago is currently being updated and when available, work can start on updating the arrangements already in existence.

A contacts list is in the village leaflet which gives details of facilities and organisations in Broadmayne.

It was compiled by the parish council and distributed to every household but if you have mislaid your leaflet, please ask the clerk for another copy.

One of the street lights in Knighton Lane near to the new village seat is on all day because the canopy of trees is shielding it and the clerk has been asked to deal with this.

One of the tenants had asked about making a small pond for his children on his allotment.

Whilst sympathetic to his reasons and as the allotments are open access and are for cultivation purposes, the council refused his request.

The clerk recently attended "Dig It" a seminar for councils on allotments and the resulting report will be discussed at a future council meeting.

The clerk often receives requests for allotments from outside Broadmayne parish and regretfully had to decline adding another name to the waiting list.

The next bulletin, which is hand delivered to all the properties in the parish, is due at the end of September and plans are already in hand to compile and produce it.

On Thursday, October 2, parishioner Dr Mark Forrest will be speaking on Discovering Our Past, at 7.30 pm in St Martin's Community Hall.

The parish council agreed to pay for the hire of this meeting, as it is hoped that this will be the first of a series of talks relating to the village over the years and be the basis for the formation of a local history group.

The council agreed a donation of £40 to the Poppy Appeal for a wreath for the chairman to lay on Remembrance Sunday.

There were four consultations on the agenda for the meeting and another one came later.

Two of them were regarding the Joint Waste Strategy which has been advertised widely and this can be found at www.dorsetforyou.com/futureofwaste where you can make a response on line by November 7.

Most important of all is the Draft South West Regional Spatial Strategy - Proposed Changes.

This covers the whole of the south west and amongst other things seeks to substantially increase the number of houses per year from the region from 23,000 to 29,600 per year and does not preclude the use of green belt land.

The information has come to the Council on CD and one document alone is over 300 pages. If you are tempted to look, it is on http://gosw.limehouse.co.uk/portal/regional_strategies/drss.

Dorchester Library should also have the CD.

Members of the parish are always welcome to attend and speak at council meetings by arrangement with the chairman.

The next meeting of the council is on Monday, October 6 at 7.30 pm in the hall at the back of the Methodist Church.

Agendas are posted on the four village notice boards and the website a week before the meeting.

The minutes of the meeting are put on the website and also on the main notice board in Main Street.
