Sarah sets a model example

GOLD medallist Sarah Ayton experienced a new kind of competition on the water when she helped Weymouth schoolchildren to race model boats.

Competitive youngsters at Wyke Regis Junior School got into the spirit of the knockout tournament with much cheering and celebration.

Sarah, 28, of Wyke Regis, Weymouth, helped the children to make model boats out of plywood, sticks, Blu-Tack and tracing paper, which they blew along two strips of guttering filled with water for the challenge.

Year 4 pupils Harry Dewland and Jack Walden were announced as overall winners after an intense series of races. Sarah presented the boys with a signed Union Flag lamp each, courtesy of her sponsor B&Q, which also provided all the equipment for the day's event.

She said: "We caused complete mayhem, I think. We had a fantastic day and a lot of fun."
