THE Weymouth Relief Road exhibition is proving popular as it goes on tour.

Several hundred people visited on the first day as the exhibition was set up at The Wey Valley School at Broadwey, organisers said.

It is an opportunity for people to find out what is involved and put any questions they may have to Dorset County Council engineers and contractors Skanska.

There are detailed maps and plans for people to look at, a timeline detailing key dates and a video ‘fly through’ of the single carriageway road which will link Manor Roundabout to the top of Ridgeway Hill.

The video is now also available to view on the Dorset Echo website.

The exhibition went on the road after Government approval was given for the compulsory purchase orders needed for the scheme.

And as archaeological investigations continue on the Ridgeway, the county council believes it is important to remind people where the route goes and the other benefits the scheme will bring.

There is also a section in the exhibition dedicated to proposals for transport improvements around Weymouth and Portland in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics which include remodelling junctions and improving public transport.

A council spokesman said: “We’ve had a really positive response so far to the exhibition.

“It seems the main thing people want to find out is where the road will go and where their property is in relation to the route.

“Representatives from Skanska are also able to explain how the road will be constructed.”

The spokesman added: “Members of the public also have an opportunity to comment on proposals for the Weymouth Transport Package for the 2012 Olympics which is part of an integrated transport package for the borough.

“There will be a more detailed consultation process in the spring of 2009 on the solutions council engineers are working on with regard to the transport package.”

The exhibition can be seen at Weymouth Library today and tomorrow, St Francis of Assisi Church hall at Littlemoor on Thursday and Dorchester Corn Exchange on Friday.

I would have thought, by now, many years in to the planning, anyone with a property within miles of the route, would not be squinting at a map at the library today !

Perhaps they will rush to St Francis of Assisi Church hall at Littlemoor on Thursday and Dorchester Corn Exchange on Friday.

Get the diggers in on Saturday before the bill goes from £80m to £180m..?..?

The artist has done a brilliant job of blurring out the Littlemoor houses which will have the road at the bottom of their gardens and will split their community.
