LEMON and lime trifle, kiwi fruit cheesecake and chocolate Christmas pudding were among the delectable offerings at the Broadmayne and West Knighton WI Christmas party.

Together with turkey and ham, many differing salads brought by members, made the main course, with baked potatoes.

Vegetarians were catered for as well and a choice of wine enhanced the feast, which ended with coffee and mints.

This mainly home made fare is looked forward to by members and this year did not disappoint and the president, Wendy Stent, who herself had done so much to make this event a success, thanked everyone who had contributed in any way towards it.

She presented Anne Williams with the cup won for the year’s competitions, and welcomed 4 new members who have just joined the institute.

Ruth Small, the treasurer, reminded members that the subscription for 2009 will be due in January, which works out at a little more than £3 a meeting and is indeed very good value.

If any lady of the two villages would like to join the institute, please contact the secretary, Margaret Cushing on 01305 854019.

After the supper, members enjoyed a delightful miscellany of songs, poetry and carols performed by ‘Two’s Company’ and very good company they were!

The perfect blend of the voices of Dee and Hilary, who encouraged their enthusiastic audience to join in on occasions, sounded beautiful.

Their repertoire of pieces ended with a sung Irish blessing and the president thanked them for ending the party on such a wonderful note. The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 8, when the speaker will be Mrs Eve Hanney who will be talking about Kite Flying.
