A transit site will be provided for gypsies and travellers at the Great Dorset Stream Fair this summer.
Cabinet members agreed to use the gypsy transit site – between the villages of Tarrant Hinton and Tarrant Launceston – used in 2007 and 2008. Providing that the council obtains planning permission they now seek to agree a three-year deal with the land-owner.
The provision will cost nearly £20,000 each year but in the past the steam fair has contributed half.
The council said that in the four years where a gypsy transfer site has been provided it resulted in a dramatic reduction in unauthorised camping and complaints of anti-social behaviour.
