GOLDEN couple Sarah and Nick Dempsey have announced that they are expecting their first baby in June.

The Weymouth Olympians, who have been together more than 10 years, married in October last year.

Double gold medallist sailor Sarah said: “Nick and I are very happy and excited to be having a baby – it’s perfect timing.

“We’ve got lots of things to look forward to.

“We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl – it’s going to be a big surprise.”

Sarah, of Wyke Regis, sailed to victory twice in the Yngling women’s keelboat class but has been forced to change boat after it was dropped from the 2012 Olympic event line up.

In her second exciting announcement, the mum-to-be has pledged to continue her quest for gold at the home sailing events in Weymouth.

The 28-year-old is teaming up with former crewmate Pippa Wilson to campaign in the 470 two-person women’s dinghy class.

Sarah added: “I plan to be back in the 470 in November.

“In the meantime, Pippa will be brushing up on her 470 skills and preparing herself physically for the job in hand. This next campaign is going to be tough but I know Pippa and I have what it takes.

“We are an incredibly strong team who complement each others’ skills on and off the water.”

Windsurfer Nick, who won Olympic bronze in Athens in 2004, finished an agonising fourth place at last August’s Beijing Olympic Games and is determined to go for gold in 2012.

His mum Olivia said: “We’re absolutely delighted about the baby. It’s just fantastic and we’re absolutely thrilled. Obviously we’ve known about it for a while but we had to keep quiet.”

Sarah’s mum Coleen Ayton said: “Sarah’s thrilled to bits.

“They’ve been together 10 years so they’ve had their time on their own and can now move on to the next stage of their life.
