THIS mystery moggie has a French connection that is puzzling cat rescue workers.

The stray ginger cat was found wandering around in a park near Cassiobury Road in Weymouth last Wednesday and handed into Moorcroft Veterinary Surgery.

It is believed he has been wandering the streets of the town for a couple of months.

When veterinary nurse Michelle Pavey scanned the mysterious cat she found a microchip that confirms the cat was registered in France.

It is not known whether he ended up in the resort after hopping off a yacht, may have stowed away in a vehicle or may belong to someone who moved here from France.

Michelle said: “It is the most bizarre stray any of us have ever seen.

“Looking at him he could be anything from five years to 15-years-old and we are presuming that he belongs to someone who has moved here from France or maybe he came over on a trip with his owners.

“He is a beautiful cat in excellent condition and has obviously been very well groomed so someone must be missing him.”

The French Embassy is also on the case and staff there are currently trying to contact the French identichip organisation to try and trace the owners. When the cat was handed in by a concerned resident she told the veterinary surgery staff that the cat had been wandering around the Park District in Weymouth since before Christmas.

Myra Moyse from Paws in Weymouth, an animal welfare society, said: “It is such a shame that we can’t trace the owners of this cat.

“How he got here is the big question – could she have hitched a lift or made the journey herself? We just don’t know.”
