Motivating Portland teenagers - the Jack Russell way

SPEAKER Jack Russell will be aiming to motivate 200 teenagers at a cutting edge youth conference on Portland in March.

He will hammer the importance of positive thinking at the Proud to be Made in Dorset event at the Portland Spa on March 13.

Two hundreds pupils from All Saints, Budmouth, the Compass centre, Royal Manor, Westfield, Wey Valley and Wyvern will attend the conference.

The aim of the event is encourage pupils to think about their future and hammer home that there are exciting and rewarding career opportunities in Dorset.

Weymouth College and Popcorn Marketing have joined forces to hold the day-long conference when pupils will be enocuraged to use their mobile phones and utilise new technology.

Mr Russell, who counts four marathons and a skiing expedition to the North Pole among his achievements, will speak to the pupils about ‘providing skills, knowledge, positive attitude for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs’.

Organisers have placed the emphasis on technology during the day. Pupils will be filmed and interviewed on buses taking them to the Spa.

They will also be encouraged to text questions and feedback about presentations and films. They will also be able to make recorded comments in a Big Brother style diary room and will be filmed at different parts of the day.

The pupils’ text questions will be answered by a panel and footage from the diary room screened later in the day before pupils are asked to write on a ‘positive wall’ as they leave. Footage will be on YouTube by 8pm that night.

Julie Cleaver, from Popcorn Marketing, said: “We are throwing the delegate pack out of the window. We are taking conferences on to the next level.”
