DEFIANT Dorchester Town FC chairman Eddie Mitchell today refused to be intimidated after receiving a death threat in the post.

The handwritten letter was sent anonymously to the property developer over his handling of the Weymouth Avenue club.

It also threatens Mr Mitchell’s son Tom, who also plays for Dorchester Town FC, and finishes with the words ‘life or death, choose wisely’.

Mr Mitchell branded the writer as a coward and challenged them to meet him face to face to sort it out.

Police are investigating the threat.

The letter reads: “Quit the club now and avoid yourself a lot of hassle.

“Don’t think I won’t act as you can see I know where you live.

“And if I don’t get you, I will get Tom.”

The letter was sent to the office of Seven Developments, Mr Mitchell’s property development business in Poole.

He said if the letter had only mentioned him he would have ‘ripped it up and thrown it in the bin'.

“My family means everything to me so this just makes me so angry,” he said.

“If somebody wanted to confront me to put me out of my misery it would not worry me one bit.

“But when they mention my kids it’s cowardly.

“I’ve got a young family and this is just not the kind of thing that goes down well in any walk of life.

“They could have come to see me and we could have sorted it out as I’m quite happy to see them face to face.”

Mr Mitchell vowed to continue as chairman.

He said: “There are some fantastic and lovely people at Dorchester and I’m going to carry on supporting the club.

“I don’t consider this person to be a fan who wants the to see the club succeed.

“Why don’t they come forward and voice their opinion properly instead of writing letters that could see them end up in jail.

“This is somebody who is not brave enough to put their name to it.

“If somebody came forward and said who it was I would donate £500 to Great Ormond Street as I’d love to find out who it is to expose what an idiot they are.

“This doesn’t help Dorchester in any way whatsoever.”

Former chairman Eddie Belt was appalled by the letter.

He said: “It’s disgraceful.

“We’ve just got to let him get on and run the club his way as he’s the chairman and each chairman has their own ideas.

“It’s easy to criticise and the supporters are always the best chairman and manager.

“I had naughty letters but none that bad. Dropping to a low like that is a disgrace.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed they received a report that a 'threatening letter' was sent to Mr Mitchell.

He said: “It’s in the early stages of investigation and officers will be speaking to him.”
