Great Missenden

WHO is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington and what is his nickname? You'll only know the answer to this and eight other such questions if you are a Harry Potter fan.

Missenden Library is running a Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone Quiz plus you need to draw a picture of Fluffy. Free entry forms from the library counter are due back next Friday to win a prize.

WHILE you are in the library pick up a fascinating brochure entitled Rats Rituals and Ripping Yarns. This is a comprehensive review of exciting fiction for young people.

I AM going to lay claim to be the first local correspondent to mention Christmas before we've finally said goodbye to August. It's on behalf of nearby Wendover Choral Society who are eager to welcome some new singers to help them present a 17th Century Venetian Christmas. They begin their new season on Thursday, September 6 in St Anne's Hall, Wendover from 7.45pm and their theme is Christmas in Venice. Musical director, Peter Bassano would love to hear from anyone who loves to sing, so visit the hall or telephone 01296 613403.

IMPORTANT news for local young people under 25. If you are a resident of Great Missenden or attended the Church of England Combined School and may need some financial assistance towards your further education, you may be in luck. The managing trustees of Great Missenden Church of England School Charity would like to hear from you by the end of September as they have some money to give away. This will be towards starting a course, perhaps buying books, instruments, tools special clothing or travel in preparation for entering a profession, trade or service on leaving school or a further educational establishment. Write to the Managing Trustees, c/o Great Missenden C of E School Office, Church Street, Great Missenden.

GREAT Missenden are holding their next parish meeting in Prestwood Village Hall at 8pm on Monday, September 10. Everybody is welcome.
