DORCHESTER Town have pencilled in their first pre-season friendly – a home clash with League One Yeovil Town.

The Glovers, for whom Magpies’ player-manager Roy O’Brien works as a community officer, are expected to visit the Jewson Stadium on Saturday, July 25, but the fixture has yet to be confirmed by the Somerset club.

And with Dorchester, who secured their Blue Square South status on the final day of the 2008/09 season, set to resume training in early July, O’Brien is hopeful of re-signing his out of contract players and bringing in some new faces within the next two weeks.

He said: “We’re in the process of talking to players and trying to finalise things. There are about six or seven lads whose contracts are up for renewal and we want to see them individually.

“Mark Jermyn, Kevin Hill, Nick Crittenden, Ashley Vickers, Phil Walsh and Ivan Forbes are the ones who have another year to run so we haven’t got to worry about them.

“We’ve also got our eye on a few players who hopefully we’ll be able to get. So within the next couple of weeks I hope that most things will be done and dusted.”

With more friendlies to be arranged, O’Brien is eagerly awaiting pre-season but insists he will not be worrying about results in those games.

He added: “We’re going to come back for pre-season on July 4 and I’m sure it will come round quite quickly. Pre-season is about getting fit and working on your style of play as opposed to results.

“I don’t look at results in pre-season because there’s nothing to play for points-wise and people can get carried away with them. Ash and I are really looking forward to it though.”

* The Magpies have also arranged a friendly with Blue Square Premier outfit Eastbourne Borough. The fixture will take place at the Jewson Stadium on Saturday, July 18.
