POLICE were called yesterday to a house in Corfe Mullen at the centre of the latest instalment in the row over MPs’ expenses.

Officers were called to investigate an alleged breach of the peace after members of the media descended on the Cogdean Walk home of Karen Leadley, sister of under-fire Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride.

A report in yesterday’s Daily Echo revealed that Mrs Leadley had received an annual salary of £12,000 from her sister’s parliamentary expenses to answer the queries of her Worcestershire constituents.

A Dorset police spokesman said: “At around 9.45am on Wednesday, officers attended an address on Cogdean Walk following a report of a possible breach of the peace. It was alleged that members of the media were on a private driveway.”

Two police officers visited the house at about 10am, the spokesman said, but no members of the media were present.

When the Daily Echo called at the property just over half-an-hour later, officers remained at the address though the street was deserted.

A man answered the door of the property and told our reporter that Mrs Leadley was unavailable for comment.

Miss Kirkbride told a national newspaper that a computer network linked her sister’s East Dorset home to the constituency office in Bromsgrove.

But shoppers at the Co-op on nearby Wareham Road questioned Mrs Leadley’s effectiveness in dealing with the concerns of voters living over 100 miles away.
