MUSIC man Ed Hintze is shutting his music shop for good on Saturday with an ‘everything must go’ day.
He is holding a special last day at the Weymouth Music store in Great George Street and will close the doors for the last time at 5pm.
Ed has blamed the recession and banks for the ‘sad’ decision to pull the plug on the music shop.
Music teacher Ed, 35, who shot to fame as Elton John on the BBC Show The One and Only, said: “I wanted to say a massive thank you to all who have supported me over the years.
“So we will be holding a special day, and having an ‘everything must go’ policy, including free beer.”
Ed and wife Jenny, who live in Cromwell Road with their children, have run the shop for the past three years. They aim to shift all remaining stock from the shop by the end of trading on Saturday but will also be giving away free beer and thanking customers.
Ed said: “It is an end of an era.
“I tried to keep the shop going but enough was enough “I have lost a lot of money and it is going to take a long time but everybody will be paid back.”
Ed estimates that he has lost about £40,000 through the shop.
Another businessman has taken over the lease of the premises and is set to open a new music shop.
Ed said that his store was more than just a business as it was a social place where people would visit and meet.
Ed added: “I’ve met some fantastic people through the shop. It was a place where people arranged to meet and where people came in for a chat.”
Ed is continuing to play gigs under his own name and as Elton John.
He is also teaching at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester and at middle schools in the area.
Ed has been running the Dorset for Singing choir which has been raising funds for the Starlight Children's Foundation. The choir has about 120 members although about 80 to 90 attend rehearsals at any one time.
It is holding a big concert and barbeque on the evening of July 11 at All Saints School. For tickets call Ed on 07971 277723 and Jenny on 07967 558351. Tickets are also available on the door.

The fact that Mr Hintze can't make it work is hardly Mr Browns or the banks fault, I am a fan of niether by the way. Also if another businessman is taking over the lease and opening another music shop, it may be testament to Mr Hintze non business ability as opposed to his musical ability. It is still a shame to see a business go down, but we should be wary of blaming all lifes ills on the dreaded recession.
Another sad story of bussiness in Weymouth. I thought Mr Brown had told the banks to help small business, this is not the first time they have not.Unfortunatly I think we will be reading more stories like this in the near future.

I am going to be the new owner of the old Weymouth music. Ed leaving is sad but seeing Weymouth without a music shop is unbelievable and so i am going to give it my best shot. The music community in Weymouth is fantastic with such a great mix of people and i will try my best to keep prices as low as possible and compete with the internet and encourage the music community back in to the shop. We are going for a different way of running with a great choice of all instruments and try to give people great deals. We will also be doing guitar lessons in the teaching room at the rear. What can i say , i have to give it a go and try to beat this **** recession because Weymouth deserves a good music shop. Thanks Dave Taylor.
