Appeal after dog goes missing in Thorncombe Woods

A FAMILY are desperate to find the whereabouts of their beloved Jack Russell cross, who disappeared from a woodland picnic last weekend.

The two-and-a-half-year-old, called Misty, went missing in Thorncombe Woods, near Dorchester, last Saturday at 1.30pm.

She is black and tan and was wearing a red collar with tags. Misty is also chipped.

Owner Lynn Toman, who is offering a reward for Misty’s return, said: “I think that the worst thing is not knowing. Is she dead somewhere? Is she stuck in a hole or has someone taken her?

“She is much loved and part of our family and we miss her terribly.

Call Lynn on 07870 752767 with information.

Really? Is this what people pay 35p for? An expensive "Lost and Found" newspaper? It's not hard to see why local newspapers are dying on their rs.

My girlfriend lost an earring in town- has anyone sent it? She was rather fond of it...and now she looks lop sided.

Oh, and I saw a sign up recently saying LOST CAT. Maybe we should have a regular feature for animals that wander off...or get released from cars before they suffocate.

Local news in Dorset rarely hits the dizzy heights of serial killers, plane crashes, volcanoes etc. Dorset happens to be quite a sedate place compared to other counties. Would you rather the OHEC made up some exciting stuff? You could always get a national newspaper for proper news like Big Brother (yawn!), Jordan (yawn!)....sorry dozed off there. If it's excitement you want you might be living in the wrong part of the country. We'll get by with lost dogs until the next Alien Invasion in a fleet of Chinese lanterns.

Who does he think he is. It's a local paper for local people. There have been many people concerned about this dog who has now thankfully turned up at Thorncombe Wood safe and sound after a 5 night ordeal. Get a life instead of making ridiculous comments!

"A local paper for local people"

Reminds me of the catchphrase used in the village shop on A League Of Gentelmen- "This is a local shop for local people". It was a witty observation regarding those that are very narrow minded and hate change or the sense of unfamiliarity or anything (or anyone) new.

Which pretty much sums up quite a few people in Weymouth. Hence why things take forever to get done- Pavilion anyone?

As for a 5 night "ordeal"- have you thought about writing for the Echo (although the use of hyperbole in your comment is more Daily Mail-esque)

I Really..., the fact remains though that the OHEC is a local paper and reports on things that happen locally. Provincial newspapers all round the country are well known for their coverage of such things as garden fetes, lost pets, cats stuck up a tree. They may be stories printed on what is known as "slow news days" but if there ain't nothing else about locally what should they do? It's nothing to do with change or resistance to change it's about the fact that, locally, for the vast majority of the time only mundane things happen. If there are stories I don't find interesting I simply don't read them. No reason for the OHEC not to print them as there are plenty of other readers who will be interested.

This is an importand local story. Every local persons view should be considered and put into the paper if deemed 'news'. If you don't like it don't read it
