Airlift drama after dog walker breaks leg

A DOG walker was flown to hospital in the air ambulance after he broke his leg at Sutton Poyntz.

The drama occurred on the steep West Hill just after 11am on Saturday.

Villagers said that the man and his daughter, who are from Weymouth, were walking their two golden retrievers at the time.

It is believed that one of the dogs ran off and the father chased it, fell and suffered a broken tibia.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance flew him to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

Village resident Yvonne Emery called the ambulance service after the man’s teenage daughter ran down from the hill asking for help. Mrs Emery said: “The trouble was it happened right on the slope of the hill.

“The air ambulance stopped at the top and the land ambulance went into the second field.

“They carried him down and then drove up to meet the air ambulance, which took him to Dorchester hospital.”

What I find sad is that the Air Ambulance survives entirely on charity, yet the Police chopper which doesn't really do as much good work as the AA, is paid for by the tax payer.

I vote we scrap the police helicopter and give the momeny to the Air Ambulance, or combine them into one multi-role chopper.

I agree with the comment above. When my cousin was in accident it was the air ambulance that picked him up and we raise well over 2 grand in his memory which we gave to the air ambulance.
