Builder burned in accident returns home for son's wedding

PROUD Keith Watson had a happy homecoming to Weymouth for his son Dean’s wedding.

He returned to the town for the first time since being badly burned and shocked by an electricity cable in February of this year.

Keith, 46, watched with pride as Dean tied the knot with Rachel Marshall at the Hotel Rembrandt on Dorchester Road.

Dean, 27, of Broadwey, Weymouth, said: “It was the perfect day.

“I said in my speech what a hard time my dad had been through for the past six months.

“It was brilliant to have him there.”

Dean added: “He did come over and say how proud he was.

“He was made up to be there and I think he was a bit choked up with tears at some points.”

Dean’s daughter Yazmin, eight, was bridesmaid.

Dean also arranged for a horse and carriage as a surprise for Rachel.

The couple are due to jet off to honeymoon to Cyprus, Turkey and Australia.

The wedding was a happy ending for the family after Keith was nearly killed in when he hit an underground cable while working in Preston in January.

Self-employed builder and bodybuilder Keith, who lives in Great Yarmouth, was badly shocked and burned after striking the cable while building a wall on private land off Puddledock Lane.

Doctors said that weightlifter Keith only survived because of his large build which absorbed much of the shock.

He was taken to the Dorset County Hospital for treatment before being flown on to Salisbury District Hospital.

Doctors in Salisbury decided to induce a coma in Mr Watson after discovering he had sustained serious injuries to his internal organs that were causing him breathing difficulties.

He underwent treatment – including skin grafts – at Salisbury District Hospital after coming out of the coma.

Keith has made an amazing return to health but is to undergo a few more operations on his hands.

Keith’s other son Darren Watson, 20, of Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth, said at the time that he feared for his father’s life.

Mr Watson, originally from Andover, lived in Weymouth with wife Pauline for several years before moving with her to Great Yarmouth.
