All Saints pupil’s fish dish is a winner

SCHOOLGIRL Charlotte Collins tantalised tastebuds with her very own dish served up at Moonfleet Manor.

Charlotte, 13, who goes to All Saints School in Weymouth, won a competition to have her dish served as the main course of a Seafood Festival Supper menu.

Charlotte said: “I heard about the competition through a leaflet handed out to us in school.

“I’m really into cooking and I watch all the cooking programmes on TV, so I wanted to give it a go.

“I’m really happy and excited about my menu being chosen and think that it is a great opportunity to have.

“In the future I would love to become a chef, or do something to do with food.”

The Seafood Festival Supper was held last night at Moonfleet Manor Hotel as part of this week’s Spirit of the Sea festival.

Charlotte’s dish consisted of pan-fried fillet of pollack on crushed new potatoes, crayfish chunks, peas, broad beans and asparagus tips, with a herb and lemon clarified butter.

Supporting Charlotte, in addition to her family, were three of her friends: Megan Bull, Emily White and Ellen Lane. She said they were a huge support to her while she was taking part in the competition.

As the overall winner of the competition, Charlotte won a dinner for four at Moonfleet Manor’s gourmet evening last night.

Charlotte was guest of honour and had her dish cooked for her as part of the menu for the evening.

She was also awarded a cook’s apron, a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne for her family, a fish cookbook and a box of chocolates from the House of Dorchester.

As well as this, Charlotte has been offered the chance to take a week’s worth of work experience with Moonfleet Manor’s head chef Tony Smith.

With Charlotte designing the winning dish for last night, a starter was also needed in order to create a complete menu.

This chance was given to the runner-up of the competition, Natalie Atkinson, who attends Budmouth Technology College in Weymouth.
