A DIESEL spill on a main road caused chaos with one motorist describing conditions as ‘like an ice rink.’ Police said the spill covered about four miles on a stretch of the A35 around Bere Regis.
A number of vehicles were sent spinning on the slippery surface but there were no reports of any collisions or injuries.
It was reported by a member of Dorset Police staff yesterday morning and was said to cover an area from the Puddletown Bypass, over the two roundabouts in the village and along the A35 towards Poole.
A driver heading to work in Weymouth from Poole said police officers flagged down motorists to advise them to drive with care over the affected area.
He said the road was ‘like an ice rink’ and told how his car nearly clipped the kerb as it slid in the diesel.
Dorset County Council sent out a gritter to pour sand over the affected area of road.
Police said they had traced the vehicle responsible for the spillage and that inquiries were ongoing.
