BROADMAYNE Badminton Club recently held their annual tournament to compete for the Jack Griffin Memorial Cup.

Refreshments were provided and play commenced at 2pm, after the draw, when 10 members had a very enjoyable afternoon.

The winners this year were Pam Tolley and Peter Gibbins, with Jim Dickson and Jo Taylor as runners-up.

  • VERY many thanks to the short mat bowls group who have kindly relinquished Friday, October 2 to the Dorset Corset Company for a production of ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’ which I am sure will be yet another success.

Book this date in your diary and look for the posters for further details.

  • AT the last meeting of Broadmayne and West Knighton WI, vice president Marjorie Turner welcomed PC David Barton, a fire-arms training officer who gave an interesting talk entitled “Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.”

He introduced his talk by explaining the role of a fire-arms instructor and the need for this service and members learned about the dangers posed by a variety of seemingly danger free situations.

He added that it was important that instructors receive medical training.

PC Barton was thanked for a most informative and entertaining talk by Pat Cozens.

The competition “Best Flower from your Garden” was won jointly by Hilary McVey and Christine Walker.

A collection was made for the Association of Countrywomen of the World and treasurer Ruth Small explained the valuable work carried out by this organisation.

Members learned of the sad loss of Evelyn Snow's husband Grier.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, October 8 when the speaker will be Rebecca Shaw talking on “To my surprise I’m a novelist!”
