WHIZZ kids counted on their maths skills coming through at Bud-mouth Technology College.

Year six pupils from 12 local primary and junior schools within the Chesil Education Partnership competed against each other in a series of interactive maths-based challenges.

They tried a series of challenges as Budmouth school hosted its tenth successive Primary Maths Challenge.

Activities included constructions from plans, a logical relay, the 169 challenge with all answers using one, six and nine, Maths Millionaire, bridge building with spaghetti and marshmallows and sudoku.

Budmouth maths and advanced skills teacher Amy Harris, the organiser of the event, said: “The challenge was originally designed by the Budmouth maths department some years ago to make maths more exciting and dynamic.

“We continue to be very impressed at the standard of maths in Weymouth’s primary and junior schools.

“The enthusiasm of students and staff has been wonderful and we would like to thank the primary staff for organising teams and supporting this event.”

This year’s winners were St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School, closely followed by St George’s Primary School and Southill Primary School.
