- VILLAGERS from Broadmayne and West Knighton recently supported the Cowleaze Luncheon Club’s coffee morning to ensure that the older members of the community would be provided with a free Christmas lunch and present.
Broadmayne Village Hall resounded with lively chatter as a full house was maintained for one and a half hours while people enjoyed coffee, tea, biscuits and cakes.
The stalls did a good trade in produce, plants, cakes and bakes, bric-a-brac, books and Traidcraft, raising a total of £160, to which a generous donation of £100 was received from the Tuesday Coffee Morning Group which meets throughout the year at St Martin’s Church.
The Luncheon Club provides a two course hot meal in the village hall on the third Thursday of each month, which it has been doing for 22 years and throughout this time it has been run entirely by volunteers who cook, serve and provide transport, three of whom have given their services since 1987.
Fund raising has, therefore, allowed the cost of monthly meals to be affordable to these members of the community many of whom have, themselves, supported village activities throughout their lives.
- THE final market of 2009 will be held in St Martin’s Church Hall on Saturday, December 5 from 10am to noon.
Produce, cakes, plants, craft, Christmas items, fair-trade goods and much more will be available plus tea and coffee and for further information contact Sylvia Dooley on 01305 852866.
