POLICE are hunting an obscene phone caller who has been targeting clinics, surgeries and nurseries across Dorset.
Sexually graphic calls have been made to staff at a Weymouth sexual health clinic and dentists in Bridport and Dorchester.
Obscene calls have been made to a variety of addresses across Dorset in the past few months.
A Dorset Police spokesman said all the calls were believed to have been made by the same man. In Weymouth, an ‘obscene’ answer phone message was left at The Park Centre for Sexual Health – department of Genitourinary Medicine – in Melcombe Avenue.
Local security management specialist for the hospital Scot Sherrard said: “It was fairly abusive and graphic, certainly nothing I can repeat. It upset staff to the extent that we contacted the police.
“Fortunately for us it was left on an answer phone so we were able to keep hold of the message and give it to the police.
“We also tracked back a number and passed that to the police.”
He added: “It sounded like a kid in actual fact and it sounded like he was drunk.”
Among the first addresses to be targeted by the caller was a dental practice in Bridport on August 18.
In Dorchester, two dentists received obscene calls on August 19.
The four most recent calls took place on Wednesday, November 4, between noon and 12.20pm.
Surgeries and nurseries in Bournemouth, Poole and Blandford have also been targeted.
Detectives in Weymouth are now appealing for any victims of similar calls who have not reported them to come forward.
Detective Constable Tom Isaac of Weymouth CID said: “We are investigating the origin of these upsetting and offensive calls and are pursuing the offender but, as always, we need the help of the public.
“Police are asking anyone who receives obscene phone calls to try to record them – and to report them to their telephone service provider so that the offending telephone number can be logged.”
Anyone receiving such calls should report them immediately to Dorset Police by calling 01305 222222.
Anyone with information about the origin of the calls is also urged to call Dorset Police in confidence.
