A COLLECTION of African tribal artefacts, which at one point were in a skip heading for the dump, have sold at auction for £6,600 in Wareham.
The artefacts, including a witch doctor’s necklace and a wooden doll, came close to being lost forever while their owner was moving house years ago.
Auctioneer John Condie said: “They varied from African ladies’ and children’s necklets and anklets, which had been given to the man in lieu of collection monies, to a witch doctor’s necklace, a wooden doll and a small Matabele tribal pillow.”
Mr Condie said the owner had hoped for between £50 and £100 for the lot.
