Weymouth and Portland tourism guide launched

TOURISM leaders are setting their sights on a soaraway summer for Weymouth and Portland.

They have launched the borough’s new look Holiday Guide for 2010 to pull in visitors next year.

Some 90,000 copies of the glossy brochure will be winging their way around the country.

Councillor Geoff Petherick, who is borough council spokesman for economic development, said: “This year’s holiday brochure has undergone a major redesign including many new and exciting images, a number of which have been provided by the local community through monthly photo competition run by the council.

“The overall aim of this year’s brochure has been to improve the quality and promote the image of the destination. Considerable attention has been given to raising the profile and awareness of the many leisure and activity opportunities in the resort while still appealing to the traditional holiday market.”

Weymouth and Portland’s economic and tourism development team launched the brochure with representatives from the hotels and tourism industry.

The brochure features information, holiday ideas, maps, activities and events.

This year it includes extra information about walks, market days and public transport as well as a more detailed accommodation index and discount vouchers.

The Holiday Guide will be promoted nationwide and abroad through advertising, online and direct mail.
