JANE Austen fans have the chance to get their hands on a little piece of Dorset movie memorabilia and help a local charity.

Collectors’ items from the 1995 big screen version of Persuasion, partly filmed in Lyme Regis, will go under the hammer in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Film schedules, rehearsal scripts and photos are to be auctioned off in Dorchester by Duke’s Auction House next month.

Behind-the-scenes details of the filming of Austen’s last novel are contained in the lot.

Austen addicts can feast their eyes on location contacts, artists’ work days, hotel information, train timetables, at-a-glance schedules and maps and directions.

There is information on a daily call sheet from Monday, September 26, 1994 telling the stars where they should park, which scenes to shoot, which livestock was needed and props for each scene to be filmed.

Persuasion was published in 1818, a year after Jane Austen’s death.

The 1995 film, directed by Roger Mitchell, tells the story of Anne Elliot, who falls in love with a young naval officer and meets him again years after she is persuaded to break off the match.

Northern Irish actor Ciaran Hinds starred as Captain Frederick Wentworth in the adaptation.He has since gone on to star in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Calendar Girls, Munich and the film version of Miami Vice.

Deborah Doyle of Duke’s said: “The collection also contains autographed photos of Ciaran Hinds, Sally George, Amanda Root, Simon Russell Beale, Victoria Hamilton and Sophie Thompson.

“Duke’s Grove auction house will sell this lot on behalf of Weldmar on Tuesday, February 2.”
