Weymouth harbour death: Drama club 'devastated'

WEYMOUTH Drama Club leaders have described the death of Glyn Watkins as ‘devastating’ and a ‘waste of talent’.

President of the club, Dennis Dunford, 76, said: “It’s very sad that somebody so young should die.

“He was really in the prime of his life.

“Glyn was an exceedingly good actor. He was a member with us for about 14 years and as far as we’re concerned, he was an asset.

“While he was here he was a respected and very serious actor.”

Mr Dunford added: “Glyn was Macduff in our Macbeth performance and was part of the ultimate fight scene. He was in Twelfth Night, Agatha Christie and numerous other productions.

“Glyn was very professional, exceedingly good with words, reliable rehearsal-wise and just a very nice fellow really.”

Secretary of the club Jan Dench said: “I’ve known Glyn for almost 20 years, I’ve acted with him and directed him in the Canterbury Tales.

“He was just superb, very exacting, everything had to be right.

“He was a very good actor and fun to be with as well.

“A lot of people are absolutely devastated about his death. He was so young and it is such a waste of talent.”
