Two children were rescued after getting stuck up to their waists in mud.
A 14-year-old boy was trapped for almost half an hour following a landslip at East Beach at Charmouth.
He eventually managed to free himself by wriggling out of the mud.
And a 10-year-old who was also stuck fast was pulled free by her parents after they held a branch over the mud which she managed to grab hold of.
A spokeswoman for Portland Coastguard said the children were cold but otherwise unhurt in the incident on Sunday evening.
She added: “There had been a mudslide in the area, which is quite common.
“It appears the children had been playing on a mound left by the slide and sometimes the tops can be crusty and they fall straight through.
“Luckily the boy managed to get a leg free and wriggle out and the girl was helped out.”
