CENTENARIAN Syd Evans proved age was no barrier when he enjoyed a good singsong to celebrate his 100th birthday.
Staff at the Dorset County Council-run Fernhill Day Centre at Lodmoor in Weymouth, which Syd attends on a daily basis, organised a surprise party for him.
They invited family members, friends and carers to help celebrate the special day with him.
His daughters Sue Sanham, Norma Roberts and Sylvia Evans were among those who attended.
A high tea was served in Syd’s honour and there was live music and entertainment laid on.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Syd moved to Weymouth with his family in 1962 and worked at the Royal Naval Dockyard at Portland before he retired at the age of 65. Syd, who enjoyed gardening and dancing in his retirement, was married to his childhood sweetheart Susie for more than 60 years.
Since being widowed 14 years ago Syd has been attending Fernhill Day Centre.
Syd, who lives at Preston, has four daughters, three of whom live in Weymouth. Daughter Sue Sanham said: “It was wonderful to be able to celebrate dad’s 100th birthday.
“He was delighted to receive greetings from the Queen and we are all very proud of him.
“At the age of 100 he is still able to look after himself.”
