SCOUTS Jack Woodrow and Dylan Redding from Dorchester are preparing for the trip of a lifetime to the world jamboree in Sweden.

The duo, who go to the Central Dorchester pack, are looking forward to ultimate Scout camp in Kristianstad in Sweden in July and August 2011. Thomas Hardye pupil Dylan Redding, 13, who lives in Dorchester, said: “I am looking forward to it.

“It is going to be really good fun and a great experience.

“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a Scout and I am really lucky to be going.

“It will be great to learn about another culture and meet Scouts from across the world.”

Dylan added: “There will be so much going on.

“I am looking forward to all of it.”

The 22nd jamboree – the camps are held every four years – will be attended by 40,000 Scouts from around the world.

They will take part in activities and events as well as build international links.

Jack and Dylan will be camping for most of the fortnight’s trip but will also spend three to four days with host families to gain a taste of Scandinavian life.

St Osmund’s Middle School pupil Jack, 12, of Charlton Down, said: “I am looking forward to the jamboree.

“It is something I have wanted to do for a while and I am very excited about going.”

The trip could cost each Scout up to £2,000.

Jack has already raised £250 from a collection at Debenhams in Weymouth, and he also intends to raise more cash there on Good Friday and the Saturday of the Easter weekend.

Dylan said: “We are going to have to think about some fundraising ideas. I may do some kind of sponsored event, such as a run.”

Scout leader Brian Newton said: “I’m very pleased that Jack and Dylan were chosen.

“They went to an induction weekend where they were chosen.

“They are both good lads and will be working hard to raise the money.”

He added: “I am sure they will be worthy ambassadors.”

David New, an assistant Scout leader, added: “It is the trip of a lifetime and will be a great adventure for them.”

The Central Dorchester pack has about 60 Scouts on its rolls with about 45 to 50 attending each Wednesday night. Future activities include hiking in the Brecon Beacons as well as camps with such activities as canoeing, at Buddens Farm in Purbeck.

If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to help, call Dylan’s dad Dominic Redding on 07769 791162 and Jack’s mum Sandie on 01305 262506.
