A FRIENDSHIP club is continuing to make new pals in the community after receiving a £746 donation from a comedy club.
Members of Stand Up Dorchester were serious about raising the cash for the group, which was set up to help adults with learning disabilities.
Mark Smith, of the comedy group, said: “We held two stand-up nights which sold out and raised £746 for the Friendship Club.
“We have the aim of bringing both affordable and quality stand-up comedy to the town and raising a bit of money for local causes.”
The Friendship Club has now been running for two years after beginning as a pilot project to explore what could be done to help adults with learning disabilities form relationships.
Coordinator Laura Kerr said: “The adults with learning difficulties attending the Friendship Club were really delighted and proud to have been chosen to receive this generous cheque from Mark Smith of Stand Up Dorchester.
“Those attending want to get out and make or meet friends in their local community.
“This money will really help us do more to support people to achieve this.”
The group meets at different venues in West Dorset and members go on outings to pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, sporting events and cafes.
Stand Up Dorchester’s next stand-up night is on Friday, April 16. Tickets cost £7.50 and are available from the Tourist Information Centre in Dorchester.
