WEST Dorset’s Liberal Democrats have accused Royal Mail of using inferior glue on their new stamps.
The claim comes after another angry constituent was forced to pay an excess postage fee to collect one of their circulars.
Melody Newman from Drimpton was furious when she had to visit Bridport Post Office to pick up the un-stamped letter – only to find it was a party political leaflet.
The Lib Dems claim all their letters are stamped and thoroughly checked before being posted.
They reckon some of the new ‘pop out window’ stamps are falling off the envelopes because they have weaker adhesive.
West Dorset parliamentary candidate Sue Farrant says she is convinced it is the reason and has written to postal bosses demanding an investigation.
The Royal Mail said the charge would not stick and have denied using inferior glue.
In the meantime, Dr Farrant has written to Mrs Newman to say she is sorry for the annoyance and sent her £1.50.
Last moth Bridport councillor Ros Kayes, the party’s parliamentary candidate for South Dorset, had to reimburse a Portland pensioner who was forced out of his sick bed to collect one of her unstamped campaign letters.
Dr Farrant said she was really sorry to have caused Mrs Newman such inconvenience.
