A FORMER pub manager who killed a special needs teacher after he lost control of his car during a high-speed race in Dorset has been jailed for three years.

Andrew Crump, 23, was driving his Peugeot 306 along the A3030 in North Wootton, Dorset, when his friend Stephen Parker overtook him at speed.

Company director Parker accelerated up a hill in his Jaguar, with Crump following in close pursuit.

Crump lost control on a bend at the top of a hill and hit Serena Buck, who was coming in the opposite direction in her Ford Fiesta.

Miss Buck, 35, from Allweston, near Sherborne, Dorset, died from severe internal and external injuries.

The impact speed between the two cars was considerably more than 57mph, Dorchester Crown Court heard during the trial.

Crump was working as assistant manager at the Horton Inn in Horton, near Wimborne, and was living in hotel accommodation at the time of the crash.

Judge John Harrow sentenced Crump, of Runnymede, Yeovil, to three years in jail at Bournemouth Crown Court and told him he would serve 18 months.

Crump had been jailed for three years in December 2003 for causing death by dangerous driving.

He had served three-and-a-half months of his original sentence before his conviction was overturned and a retrial was ordered - but he was found guilty for a second time.

Judge Harrow said that time Crump had served in jail would count towards yesterday's sentence.

Parker, 40, was acquitted of causing death by dangerous driving in December 2003 and found guilty of careless driving. He was fined £1,000 and banned for 12 months.
