Dorchester animal campaigners have thanked the Dorset Echo for helping to home kittens with an amazing literary heritage.

Tabby Points Bella and Tessa are descendants of cats reared by Lawrence of Arabia at his Clouds Hill cottage.

Known as the Waddock Cross kittens, they were born in the wild and rescued last year by the West Dorset branch of the Cats' Protection League.

They were rejected by two owners who could not cope after Bella refused to use litter trays, and then taken on by the Siamese Cats Club Welfare Trust.

Now Bella has been cured of her problem, the pair have found a permanent home with new owners in the Devon area.

Dorchester's Cats' Protection League representative, Margaret Rehahn, who made several appeals on behalf of the homeless kittens and even cared for them herself, said: "It is a tale with a happy ending - we could not have done this without the help of the Echo.

"Thank you so much."
