A FATHER and daughter are revving up for a trip of a lifetime.

Mini fans Kevin and Jo Bennett, from Weymouth, are preparing to follow in the footsteps of actor Michael Caine when they take part in the trip to raise cash for charity by re-creating the cult film The Italian Job.

The pair, who will be supporting children's charity NCH, need to raise a minimum of £1,500 to take part in the event, so they decided to speed along to the annual Outlooks Family Centre fete in Fortuneswell on Portland to help their cause.

Kevin said: "Jo has always been into Minis and roped me into doing the Italian Job but now I can't wait to get started.

"The event itself supports the NCH so we thought it would be nice to bring the car along to the fair to show people what the race is all about."

The group of more than 100 Mini enthusiasts is set to leave Britain on October 26 and drive in convoy through Europe to eventually arrive in Italy.

Once the crews arrive there they will spend some time at the Imola grand prix circuit and the famous Ducatti factory before touring the country and heading back to Britain where they will enjoy a slap-up banquet at Folkestone to round off the tour on November 5.

Kevin says he has no fears about whizzing around each day completing different tasks and stages.

"We've got two back-up cars just in case anything does go wrong and it should be a great experience. We're both really looking forward to it - part of the event involves racing on the roof- top circuit which is featured in the film," said Kevin.

Visitors to the fun-packed fete attempted to guess how many balloons were in their Mini and other attractions included tombolas and a bouncy castle and barbecue.

Jasmine Allen, acting project manager for the centre which is linked with NCH, said: "The centre is not just about helping children but also parents who can come here and meet other people and learn parenting tips and skills."

Also on offer at Outlooks, which has been running for six years, were a host of prizes donated by local clubs and businesses including days out to various leisure complexes and meals at restaurants.

"We want to take two coachloads of people to Crealy Adventure Park so the money will go towards that and we would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who donated to the raffle," she said.
