IAN Hutchinson will become the fifth player to leave Weymouth in the past fortnight when he completes a move to Dorchester Town, later today.

The Terras midfield star is joining the Dr Martens Eastern Division promotion chasers on loan until the end of the season.

Fans' favourite Hutchinson is another shock victim of the club's cost-cutting initiative that has already seen Danny Potter, Lee Phillips, Matthew Hale and David Laws leave the Wessex Stadium.

Hutchinson said: "I spoke to Mark Morris last week and it now looks certain that I'll be signing for Dorchester at least until the end of the season. I'm in the same boat as people like Matthew Hale and David Laws where I really don't want to leave Weymouth, but with the current financial troubles at the club I guess difficult decisions have to be made.

"To be honest, the whole thing has given me some sleepless nights and it's certainly affecting all the players' performances. But it's just like Lawsy said about his move to Newport IoW - if it helps Weymouth Football Club survive then it's something I've got to do."

He added: "In some ways it's been easier for the other lads because they've all gone to clubs a bit further afield where as I'm being asked to go over the hill and play for Weymouth's big rivals. But if I go to Dorchester I'll give them 120 per cent and I'll be doing all I can to get them back up to the Premier Division and get the big derby games going again."

Magpies' boss Mark Morris, who watched Hutchinson in action against Wimborne Town at the Avenue Stadium last night, said he was delighted to get his man.

"I've long been an admirer of Ian's," he admitted, "and I think he'll fit in and suit our style very well indeed. He's one of those players who gives it everything he's got and I'm hoping he'll also score a few goals for us from midfield.

"At this moment it's probably the best move all round for everyone involved. We get a quality player, Ian keeps playing Football and Weymouth can further lower their wage bill until at least the end of the season.

"But I make no secret of the fact that I'd like to sign him permanently, but we're just have to wait and see what happens."

Meanwhile Martin Underhay, who scored one of the Terras four Senior Cup semi-final goals yesterday, has turned down a move to Bashley.

He explained: "I was actually due to meet Bashley and sign for them this week, but with David Laws having gone to Newport IoW, I've decided to stay and take my chances with Weymouth."
