WEYMOUTH vindicated boss Andy Mason's decision to field a full strength side by cruising to a 12-1 victory over Dorset Combination outfit Westland Sports in their latest warm-up outing at the Wessex Stadium last night.

The massive gulf in class between the Terras and their under-siege visitors was all too apparent as the hosts dished out a walloping to the Yeovil-based minnows.

But despite the walk-over, Mason felt the game had proved to be a worthwhile exercise.

He said: "It was a good run-out and it has definitely helped increase our confidence as well as sharpen our fitness levels. The lads are now in far better shape than if we hadn't played, so it's definitely been worthwhile."

Striker Darran Rowbotham did the most damage, notching six times, but it was Mark Robinson who got things rolling as early as the second minute when he nipped in to steer home David Laws' cross from the left flank.

Michael Dean's drilled effort from the edge of the box made it two after a quarter of an hour and Laws was on target with a third mid-way through the half when he coolly beat visiting keeper Gary Noone after being released by Rowbotham.

Weymouth were completely running the show and it came as no surprise when Row-botham further extended their advantage after 27 minutes.

However, Sports didn't let their heads drop at any stage and pulled one back with probably the best strike of the night on 35 minutes when striker Stacey White's 25-yard scorcher gave home keeper Danny Potter no chance.

But the slick Terras resumed normal service moments later when Robinson nodded home Matthew Hale's clipped ball to make it 5-1.

And it was six just a minute before the break when Hale's pinpoint cross found the head of Laws and he made no mistake from close range.

Rowbotham then notched his second and Weymouth's seventh seconds later when he tapped in from close range after some good work from Robinson.

And things got no better for Sports after the interval when they again faced tide after tide of Terras attacks, with the home side scoring four times in a devastating 12 minute spell at the start of the second period.

First Rowbotham added to his tally by tucking away a Robinson cut-back on 48 minutes and moments later he rounded a despairing Noone before steering home to claim his fourth and Weymouth's ninth.

On the hour the former Exeter City man was celebrating once more, this time finding the net with a neat downward header.

Laws then squeezed home from a tight angle after beingteed up by Hale down the left, but it was that man Rowbotham who rounded things off in style on 84 minutes to complete the Terras dozen.

Weymouth: Potter, Rawlinson (Underhay 75), Hale (Mason 67), S Browne, Waldock (A Browne 45), Cross, Robinson, Hutchinson, Rowbotham, Laws, Dean.
