The Big Band is poised, relaxed, but with eyes anxious for the lead. Then the murmured notes of Moonlight Serenade start floarting out into the auditorium.

Recapture the sounds and memories of a bygone era at Weymouth Pavilion next month when the Nick Ross Orchestra presents an unmissable evening of music and song' the Classic Big Band Sound of the 1940s.

A selection from the repertoires of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Ted Heath will be featured and the concert would not be complete without reference to the songbooks of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.

Giving voice to these famous songs will be Matthew Ford and Jenny Darren.

Matthew Ford is from the same mould as the classic singers Matt Monro, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra he has formidable natural talent and a striking presence in front of a live audience.

Matthew has gained a large and loyal following throughout the UK during his five years as vocalist with the renowned Syd Lawrence Orchestra.

Jenny Darren is a truly exceptional vocaliste. Her voice can be heard as part of the Evita Choir whch starred Madonna in 1996 and on the theme tune for Painted Lady which featured Helen Mirran in 1997.

Jenny has also appeared in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Prince Edward Theatre, Jeanne in Les Miserables at the Sadler's Wells Theatre and in Heathcliff, on tour with Cliff Richard.

Sounds of the Glenn Miller Era is at Weymouth Pavilion on Sunday, July 9, starting at 7.30pm.
