THE excellent illustration of the proposed new district council offices in Charles Street (Echo, March 31) tells us all we need to know.

It’s an enormous glass palace for guess who? – councillors and office workers of course! The cost, £13million paid for by us!

Charles Street was intended for shops, restaurants and for the people, not offices.

The very first building we are to have in the new shopping centre is an office block – not a single retail unit has yet been named.

Further, why is it necessary to move the library here?

The current building is excellent, very accessible with ample parking.

Any more would be costly for taxpayers and would add to parking chaos, and why, so stated, would this ensure it’s future? It must be very secure where it is.

Councillor Robert Gould, why the sudden last-minute flurry of information and invitation to see the plans?

You should have kept us informed all along.

The offices were not on the original plans, why were they changed, and why are the taxpayers funding this anyway, and not the developers?

Mr Bancroft (Echo, March 30) is right when he said ‘WDDC could have dealt with it better’ and ‘their rights and wrongs of decision making’.

Come on Coun Gould, do your duty to your electors, the whole town is against you – have the courage to speak to your officers, review your decision right now!
