IAN Hutchinson hopes to lead Weymouth back to normality after he and Andy Mason completed their return to the Wessex Stadium dugout by putting pen to paper on two-year contracts yesterday.

Nearly three months to the day after being sacked by chairman George Rolls, Hutchinson and Mason shook hands with the same man and signed their deals at Weymouth’s Hotel Rembrandt to complete their comeback.

They will be paraded on the pitch before today’s clash with Hampton & Richmond (3pm), the Terras’ last home match in Blue Square South, but won’t officially begin work until next season.

“It was a great honour and a privilege to manage the football club first time round and just the same this time,” said Hutchinson. “Mine and Andy Mason’s aim is to be a part of trying to make this club normal again without the circus around it.”

Hutchinson also urged supporters to show their gratitude to the club’s players for their commitment this season.

He said: “It will be nice to send them off with a good crowd for all their hard work during a turbulent time.”

Mason added: “Forget all the politics, that doesn’t matter. We just want to get out there, get a good team going, get some local lads in to play a decent standard of football and get back to the good times.”

Rolls, who previously admitted that sacking the duo was a mistake and done so for non-footballing reasons, commented: “It was a case of whether Ian and I could get on and work together.

“Luckily we’ve both been man enough to speak and go through what happened before and that’s a thing of the past now.

“We have to look forward to taking Weymouth to that next level.”

Associate director Simon Etherington added: “I’m delighted that Ian and Andy have joined the club again.

“I’m certain it’s a decision that will please the fans and was one taken by the board with the supporters’ association.

“Hopefully now this is the start of a bit of stability in the club.”
