Election 2010: Lord Adonis on campaign trail in Weymouth

VOLCANIC ash clouds couldn’t stop the campaign trail in Weymouth.

Secretary of State for Transport Lord Adonis joined the fight for South Dorset, by joining Labour candidate Jim Knight on the campaign trail. The minister had come from a meeting in Brussels about the new volcanic ash plumes causing chaos over Europe.

Lord Adonis joined Mr Knight at the site of the new Weymouth Relief Road and went to see where the park and ride facilities will be built. The minister outlined the three-pronged approach to tackling Weymouth’s traffic problems.

Lord Adonis said: “Jim has been campaigning for the road for many years. After decades we now have this £80million investment with a further £14 million for the Olympic transport package.”

“The park and ride system is integral to the relief road scheme, it is so important to get people out of their cars and onto public transport.”

Lord Adonis continued with Mr Knight by campaigning in Upwey and Broadwey before returning to London.

Jim Knight must be worried about losing his seat tommorrow judging by the amount of campaigning he seems to have done in Weymouth. That and all the big hiting Labour ministers he has drafted in to help him. Hopefully it will have all been to no avail

I am having nightmares about Draxula. Lord Adonis is an unlikely Good Fairy come to save us.
At least we have one good Clegg to stand on.

Thing is Portland G where is that useless piece of work Oliver Letwin? I thought he would have been on the campaign trail with Richard (Stacks of money Drax).
Jim Knight has worked his socks off over the years for Weymouthn & Portland and I hope beyond hopes that he continues.

Jim Knight has done nothing for South Dorset, the only thing he claims to have done is WIN the relief road, nothing to do with the Olympics then Jim and the road going a head anyway. Roll on Friday.

A **** version of a relief road at that!

In the very unfortunate event he is still around in 2012 hope he and his cronies are stuck on it.

All these pre election promises.... believe them at your peril or loss.
Spend spend spend does not work... anyone in debt knows that. Except Gordon.

Unemployed or under paid, in debt, so borrow more and more, dont worry about ever paying it back leave the debt to your kids, yeah great policy Gordon, too bad too many of your do nothing and take generation believe you.

Muttleyhanna says Jim Knight has done nothing for South Dorset in the past 13 years. Bit of a sweeping statement, maybe you could explain a bit more. What hasnt he done that you would have liked him to? Why do you think a majority of people voted him back a second time. Presumably because they
were impressed the first time.

Many sweeping statements here, not just about Jim Knight.
The word b g t d comes to mind.

No need for Jim to worry it’s the rest of us that should worry about the possibility of Cameron or even Clegg getting in, we are in the *hit but it will be even worse if either of those two get their hands on the reins on their own.

Lord Adonis, Secretary of State for Transport. What constituency does he stand for. None, tut, tut, unelected and a Lord to boot. Heaven forbid its the Labour Party he stands for. Well, what can he possibly know about ordinary people!

How can you possibly say it will be worse under Cameron/Clegg when it was Brown who got us into the *hit in the first place.

Think of the expenses go for the cheapest option possible.

Primus stoves are a lot cheaper than a aga .

Do we need a new WDDC building ?

Do we want part time MP's

Do we want MP's who would rather beg than use a inner city state school .

Do they vote just to keep a job or do they think of the people who put them there ?

Tough call.. I have little time for Knight, but this is what happens with the "compassionate conservatism" party of Cameron & Drax:

Who in their right mind would vote for that?

@ Dispirited
When you say "Well, what can he possibly know about ordinary people"

Adonis's mother left the family when he was 3 after which he was placed in care and he then lived in a council children's home until the age of 11. Not exactly a life of privilege...

Staffs are you really that naive? Do you really think that Gordon Brown has so much influence that he can bring about a global recession all on his own? You will no doubt blame him when it gets dark tonight as well. The whole global thing was brought about by greedy bankers investing in the sub-prime market in the U.S.A not by Gordon Brown. And had it not been for him we would be in a much worse state now.
