DYNASTIC jazz vocalist Jacqui Dankworth couldn’t really fail to reach the top of her profession given her parentage, but it is so obviously her exquisite voice and songwriting skills that have enabled her to achieve so much.

She’s touring sporadically on the back of her excellent Back to You album and was enthusiastically received by a generous Lighthouse audience.

With a skilled four-piece band, including brother Alec on double bass, behind her she effortlessly glided through a repertoire including the likes of a reworked Blue Moon, Sting’s I Was Brought to My Senses, and The Man, co-written with her revered and much-missed dad Johnny.

If Dankworth seemed a little understated at the mic twixt songs maybe that was just the jazz way of things, as were the many and varied instrumental solos cropping up.

She was joined in the second half by the estimable Luminos, Poole’s community choir led by Bridport-based Sammy Hurdin, for a selection of well-rehearsed numbers.

It was certainly a treat to hear a host of voices behind Dankworth, who seemed to wholeheartedly appreciate the backing Luminos provided.

A singer at the top of her game, less jazzy than some may have hoped for, but wonderfully accessible.
