I was recently interviewed by Radio Solent and BBC Spotlight about the Weymouth Transport Package.

Like many people in Weymouth I had many concerns and questioned the work effort, timescales, disruption and the long-term legacy to Weymouth.

Following these interviews, I had a meeting with Matthew Piles, Strategic Projects Manager for both the Relief Road and the Transport Package.

Matthew addressed all of my questions/concerns and was also able to detail the history, reasoning and objectives for the package.

He was able to tell me about the constraints, both legal and financial, under which this operation is being carried out.

We spent considerable time looking at detailed plans for the new junctions, the traffic flows, public transport operations and park & ride.

I must say that, having had this opportunity to look at the package in detail with a senior manager, I am now much more appreciative of what they are doing.

The proof of the pudding will of course be in the eating but I now firmly believe that the disruption we are suffering in the short term will be beneficial to Weymouth in the future.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel and I don’t believe that it is a gorilla with a flashlight.
