CHARITY fundraisers were in the pink to raise money for breast cancer research.

Dozens of workers in Weymouth and Dorchester headed to work dressed up for the Breast Cancer Campaign’s national Wear It Pink fundraising day.

Most of the people working at Littlemoor Shopping Centre in Weymouth donned the bright colour pink.

They included staff from Elegance hair studio, Co-op, Littlemoor Hardware, the Sue Ryder shop, the fruit and veg shop, Daniel’s fish and chips, Martin the Newsagent, Littlemoor pharmacy, the library and the health centre.

Amy Chick, who works as a hairdresser at Elegance, said: “This is the second year we’ve all come to work wearing pink and selling pink cakes.

“This is the first time staff from all the other local shops have gathered together at the salon and we’re hoping we raise lots for the Wear It Pink day.”

The 20-year-old and the other fundraisers were joined by her mum Deby, who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and has just gone into remission.

Deby, of Hawkesworth Close, Preston, said: “I’m very happy that so many people are supporting the Wear It Pink day.

“Events like this are needed to raise money for research and equipment.

“Anything to ensure there are more ladies out there surviving breast cancer.”

The 47-year-old added: “It was very scary to be diagnosed with it and it feels wonderful now that I’ve gone into remission. “It feels like coming out of the other side of a dark tunnel.”

Staff at Chic hair and beauty salon in Preston Road, Weymouth, also came to work dressed in pink and sold pink cakes to raise money.

Salon manager Kate Jarvis said: “We do this every year.

“A few of our staff member and customers have gone through breast cancer themselves and we’ve always supported them.

“We’re hoping we can raise a couple of hundred pounds for breast cancer research through this.”

Staff at The Edge hair salon in Mellstock Avenue, Dorchester also joined in the fundraising fun as did Dorset Echo staff, who wore pink clothes and sold pink cakes to raise money.
